Great Cake Ideas for Boys - a Dirt Cake

This cake idea was contributed by Becki McCarty, a fan of our site.

"My boys wanted a "Bug Party" and we had about 50 guests so it had to be versatile. I prepared brownies in a 1/2 sheet pan (using parchment paper so it came out easy when cooled). I also baked a marble cake in a large glass bowl. Once both items cool, 1st flip the brownie onto a workable and presentable surface – I used a nice cutting board so I could decorate and wash – then flip the cake onto the brownie. Then frost the whole thing with fudge frosting, using the frosting to fill in gaps and form a ‘mound’ for your bug hill. Then have the kids squish chocolate covered graham crackers until there are different textures for the ‘dirt’, sprinkle over entire cake/brownie. Then place whatever plastic bugs on the cake. Our party was 2 years ago and my boys still talk about it and want another Bug Party."
